My 10 Most Used WordPress Plugins

I had a question what WordPress plugins I am using.
So here is the list of my 10 most used WordPress plugins

1.) Akismet antispam plugin

- eliminates the comment and trackback spam. Seems like it uses bayes AI as it is able to ‘learn’
Turn on the option “Automatically discard spam comments on posts older than a month” in case you will be busy.

2.) WordPress Database Backup plugin.

Will create a complete backup of your current WordPress you can download to you computer, have it sent by email, or even saved on your server. (= what’s the point actually?)

You can also have it Scheduled as
* Never
* Once Hourly
* Once Daily
* Once Weekly
and sent it automatically to the email you specify.

Well, at least something which gives me a better sleep at night… in case anything goes wrong with your blog you can have your blog back.
(I am a Big Fan of having backups - when I am working on/updating my ‘regular’ HTML sites I Always work on my local machine, and always copy and paste to the new updated folder, so I can always go back. I think I have Every version of every one of my sites I ever created still on my home computers. = see, another reason why I Hate blogs  ;-) )

3.) Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator

This plugin generates a XML-Sitemap compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog. This format is supported by Ask.com, Google, YAHOO and MSN Search.

4.) Smart Update Pinger

Instead of always pinging when saving a post, the plugin only pings when the post has not previously been published. Edits of posts are “silent”. Also, you can see a log for the latest pings, together with error messages (in the options page).

5.) All in One SEO Pack

Automatic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) out of the box plugin for your wordpress blog. Includes many options.

The newest versions of WordPress also include option of metatags.

6.) All in One Video Pack

Video Plugin - it includes every functionality you might need for video and rich-media, including the ability to upload/ record/import videos directly to your post, edit and remix content with an online video editor, enable video responses, manage and track your video content, create playlists and much more…

Or
I am also using Viper’s Video Quicktags which also helps you to add videos from popular video sites to your posts

7.) Sociable - Social Bookmarking for WordPress

Sociable is a plugin which adds social media buttons to your posts.
You can also learn more about it straight at WordPress Sociable plugin page.

8.) Adsense Deluxe plugin

AdSense-Deluxe is a WordPress plugin offering advanced options for managing the automatic insertion of Google AdSense or Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) ads to your WordPress posts.

9.) Amazon

With WP-Amazon, the Amazon product catalog is available right from WordPress. This plugin will allow you to search Amazon as you compose your post or page entry, so you can include items from Amazon to your entries.
But you have to configure this plugin before using.

10.) RSS Autosubmit

will submit your blog’s rss feed to 16 RSS Directories once a month.

I don’t use all of them on each of my blogs, and of course, I use other ones as well, but those above are currently my most used WordPress plugins. I will add more as I find them useful…

    Thank you. Yes, I am using Zemanta as well - especially their pictures feature. See the pic at the top right hand side and the zemanta “zemified” button above. ;-)
    There are so many other useful plugins out there I guess I should create a new page just for Useful plugins people could add theirs too

    Hey, very interesting post.

    My written English is not so good so I write in German:

    “Lieber den Spatz in der Hand, als die Taube auf dem Dach.”

    Yours sincerely

    - well, even if I don’t understand the connection to this post it is interesting to know that there is the same Saying in German that in my native language Slovakian: “Lepsi vrabec v hrsti ako holub na streche”

    Oh, and for those of you who Don’t speak Slovak (how come…?! < ;-0) in English it goes something like this:
    “Better the sparrow in hand, as the dove on the roof”

    And if this is just a way to get a backlink, it’s clever, so I approved it ;-)
